The Roget family were distinguished members of the Huguenot Society and also served the French Hospital and the Threadneedle Street church. There is an entry in the Dictionary of National Biography for Peter Mark Roget (physician and compiler of Roget's thesaurus). His mother was Catherine Romilly, sister of Sir Samuel, (see Dictionary of National Biography) and strong ties were maintained between the two families. Peter Mark's son John Lewis was an artist, art critic and author of History of the Old Water-Colour Society (now the Royal Watercolour Society). The bulk of the collection relates to the later generations of the Roget family, particularly papers and diaries belonging to Peter Mark's granddaughter Isabel Roget.
